Dominique Lafon

Domaine des Comtes Lafon

Burgundy’s legendary Dominique Lafon really needs no introduction. The family’s history within the region is impressive in itself, dating back to the 19th century when Dominique’s great-grandfather, Jules Lafon, married Marie Boch in 1894, a woman whose family owned estates in Meursault. Over the years, this domaine has risen to produce stunning wines of great acclaim. With Dominique at the helm (since the late 80s), that rise has continued and Dominique is definitely one of the very top names in Burgundy.

Dominique completed his studies in oenology in the 1980s, spending time in both Oregon and California. After just two years of being back in Burgundy, he realized his passion for organic viticulture. By 1992, all farming was done organically, and biodynamic experimentation began three years later. One hectare turned to three, and the results were undeniable; both fruit and vines were healthier, leading way to cleaner, higher-quality wines. Currently, all fourteen hectares are farmed biodynamically.

Lafon’s whites can be characterized as textured, concentrated, and polished while maintaining a sense of elegance and class. The reds are perfumed, delicate, and sophisticated.
